Catacomb of Torment
This cover was created for Catacomb of Torment, Volume 1, Issue #1 — a horror anthology published by the legendary EC Comics in collaboration with Oni Press. Known for their iconic legacy in the genre (think Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror), EC’s return to the spotlight with new stories makes this project especially exciting.
The issue features three chilling tales:
-
Garden Variety by Matt Kindt & David Lapham
-
Quintana Roo by Marguerite Bennett & Dan McDaid
-
What’s the Deal with Voodoo? by John Arcudi & Patrick Piazzalunga
My goal for the cover was to visually capture the spirit of classic horror with a modern twist — using bold contrasts, symbolic tools of torment, and a limited color palette of red, black, and white to amplify tension and mystery. The hand-drawn textures and woodcut-inspired linework add an organic edge, nodding to vintage horror aesthetics while keeping the design fresh and graphic.
This piece reflects my passion for genre illustration, especially in horror and pulp-inspired projects. It’s also a great example of my ability to merge narrative and design for eye-catching storytelling — ideal for comics, book covers, and editorial work.
